Banking Court grants interim bail to Zardari

A Banking Court in Karachi on Friday has granted interim bail to former president Asif Ali Zardari in a case pertaining to fake accounts.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman along with his counsel Farooq H. Naik, appeared before the court under tight security.

Farooq H. Naik, counsel to Asif Zardari argued that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has nominated his client in money laundering case which he will defend before the Trial Court. He said the Islamabad High Court also granted 15 days protective bail, hence his pre-arrest bail shall be granted.

The court granted pre-arrest bail against surety bonds worth Rs2 million.

Earlier, the Banking Court ordered for issuing arrest warrants of Asif Ali Zardari . Upon which he had acquired protective bail from IHC.

The court ordered him to appear before the Trial court on September 03.

Talking to media outside the Banking Court, Farooq H. Naik said that money laundering case does not fall in the jurisdiction of the Banking Court.
“The charge sheet against my client are baseless", he stated. The hearing of the case was adjourned till September 4.
