BAHAWALPUR   -  A video link meeting of the Divisional Peace Committee was held at Bahawalpur Commissioner’s Office, on Friday.

The meeting was attended by Regional Police Officer Muhammad Zubair Dareshk, Bahawalpur Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia, Deputy Commissioner Rahim Yar Khan, Dr Khurram Shehzad, Deputy Commissioner Bahawalnagar Shafqatullah Mushtaq, Bahawalpur DPO Faisal Kamran, Rahim Yar Khan DPO, Asad Sarfraz, Bahawalnagar DPO Zafar Bazdar, Additional Commissioner Faisal Ata Khan, Assistant Commissioner General Liaquat Ali Gilani, Member Peace Committee Syed Salahuddin Jilani, Syed Tehseen Nawaz Gardezi, Faqir Habib-ur-Rehman, Maulana Abdul Razzaq Shaiq, Malik Allah Bakhsh Kalyar, President of Anjuman-e-Tajiran Hafiz Muhammad Younis and others participated. Addressing the meeting, Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer Muhammad Zubair Dareshk said that the philosophy of unity among Muslims should be promoted from the pulpit and mihrab during Muharram. He directed the police officers of the three districts to make foolproof arrangements for the security of Muharram gatherings and processions.

Pakistan should strenghthen ties with Afghanistan: Webinar’s participants

Pakistan Studies department of Islamia University of Bahawalpur, hosted a webinar on the effects of the withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan on the South Asian region. The program was hosted by Prof Dr Aftab Hussain Gilani, Dean, Faculty of Law Prof Dr Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, participated in the webinar. Prof Dr Aslam Syed said that the United States had fought the war in Afghanistan for two decades and spent billions of dollars, but eventually had to negotiate with the Taliban. He said that the present Taliban was different from the Taliban of 1994, who had a soft corner for Pakistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan is of the same opinion that the problem of Afghanistan will never be solved by war.

Prices of essential food items reviewed

A meeting of the Price Control Committee was held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Shahid Imran Marth in which the prices of food items were reviewed. Deputy Director Industries Zubair Abbasi, Deputy Director Livestock Dr Sabteen Bukhari, Khurshid Nazir, Mohammad Bilal, Muhammad Ijaz Bukhari, officers of relevant departments and representatives of Anjuman-e-Tajiran were present on the occasion.  Rice Basmati Colonel (Old) Price Rs130 per kg, rice Basmati (New) Price Rs115 per kg, Rice Ari Rs58 per kg, Dal Chana (Thick) Rs120.  The price of kilogram and dal chana barik was fixed at Rs115.  Similarly, Dal Mong  (thick) Rs130 per kg, Dal Mash (Chaman) Rs206 per kg, Dal Mash (SqR) Rs185, basin Rs120 per kg and flour and sorghum Rs68 per kg.  The Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue said that food items should be sold at fixed rates and price lists should be displayed in prominent places so that consumers do not face any difficulty while purchasing.  He said that immediate legal action should be taken against those selling essential commodities above the stipulated price.
