Punjab IGP takes notice of Chiniot suicide incident

LAHORE – Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman on Tuesday took strong notice of an incident in which a man set himself on fire to protest against the decision of a Panchayat in Chiniot district.
According to an official handout, the provincial police chief also directed Chiniot DPO Shahzad Akbar to submit the report of the incident to the Central Police Office within 24 hours.
Following the orders of the IGP, the DPO has constituted a five-member investigation team to probe into the torture on Skindar Hayat, son of Shah Nawaz, who attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze. The team comprises Chiniot City Circle SDPO, DSP (Investigations), City Police Station SHO, In-charge Investigations and Investigation Officer.
Meanwhile, a case FIR No (1016/12) under section 324/34 has been registered against three nominated accused Naseer Ahmed, Qaiser and Haji Khalil Ahmed on the application of Shahid Nawaz, brother of Skindar Hayat, in the Chiniot City Police Station. The Chiniot police have arrested the three accused and are interrogating them.
Shahid Nawaz stated in his application that his brother Skindar Hayat had been working along with the accused at a furniture workshop. Naseer Ahmed accused his brother of a theft at his residence and later the three accused threw acid on Skindar to force him to confess the crime. As a result, Skindar received severe burn injuries. .
