Jailbird shifted to hospital after clash
rawalpindi - A jailbird was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital for treatment after he and his brother were attacked by a group of seven prisoners at Adiala Jail, sources and jail authority informed The Nation yesterday.
The seriously injured prisoner was identified as Jahangir. His brother was identified as Shafique. Both brothers are in jail in a murder case that took place within limits of Police Station Waris Khan, sources said.
According to sources and jail authority, the two brothers Jahangir and Shafique were present in the lawn of barrack number 2 when a group of seven other inmates including Kashif Masih, Rashid Mehmood, Irfan, Ibrar Hussain, Shafiqur Rehman, Shafqat Hussain and Abdul Rehman attacked them.
The attackers hit the two inmates with cutters. As a result, Jahangir received deep cuts into his neck and was moved to jail hospital for medical treatment. However, later the doctors referred Jahangir to DHQ Hospital for treatment while keeping in view his serious condition. However, Shafique is being cured at jail hospital.
Reportedly, a case was lodged against the attackers with Adiala Police Check post and further investigation was under way.
Jail Superintendent SSP Saeed Ullah Gondal also reported the matter to District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi, City Police Officer (CPO) and DIG Prisons Rawalpindi Range.
