Lahore  - Former JUI-F leader and cleric Mufti Azizur Rehman on Monday confessed to sexually assaulting a student during interrogation, police said. 

Earlier, a local court on Monday handed over Mufti Azizur Rehman to Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) on four-day physical remand. 

The CIA had produced the accused before Judicial Magistrate Rana Arshad Ali, at Cantt courts. The investigation officer requested the court for granting physical remand of the accused for investigations. The court, allowing the request, handed over the accused to the CIA on a four-day physical remand and directed for carrying out his DNA test and medical check-up.

The court also directed the CIA to produce him on expiry of the remand term. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) investigations Shariq Jamal Khan said the cleric had admitted that the incident’s video, which went viral on social media a few days ago, had featured him and was secretly filmed by the student who was being sexually abused.  “I made the student a target of my lust with the lure of passing him [in his exams],” he confessed to his crime before police. . “I am very ashamed at what I did,” he said during the interrogation,” said cleric.
