RAW plot to target Nawaz revealed

LAHORE: At a time when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is about to leave for an official visit to the United States, Indian intelligence agency, RAW, was reported to have prepared a conspiracy to “target” him. The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that the Punjab home department has issued an alert to the law-enforcing agencies to counter the enemy’s evil plan. Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed is also said to be on the hit list of the enemy agency. During his stay in the United States, the prime minister is scheduled to apprise the leadership of the host country of the role India is playing in fomenting trouble in Balochistan and Karachi.

The government says it has incontrovertible evidence of Indian involvement in terrorist activities in various parts of the country. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has presented various proofs to the UN secretary general. The home department, Punjab, in a circular issued to the police, special branch, capital city police officer, VVIP security and chief security officer to PM Nawaz Sharif, states that security for the country’s chief executive be further strengthened.

The circular issued on October 9 reads: “It has been reliably learnt that RAW has planned to undertake high-value assassinations in Pakistan to create a wide-scale chaos.” It has already tasked its agents to assassinate the prime minister and Hafiz Saeed of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, it said. RAW officials are planning to portray aforementioned actions as retaliatory strikes by extremist groups like LeJ or TTP to avenge the recent terrorist actions, the circular adds.

The document further says, “It has also tasked its sources to gather all possible addresses of Hafiz Saeed in Punjab. The above-mentioned top-level actions have been planned to create anarchy in the country as a result of major acts of violence like assassination of the prime minister of Pakistan.” In view of the threats, the home department has suggested all possible precautions besides exercising extra vigilance and heightened security measures at all tiers. Talking about the RAW conspiracy, an official of the home department said, while talking to The Nation on Saturday, India could not tolerate peace in Pakistan.

“Now that normalcy has been restored to a great extent as a result of the steps taken under the National Action Plan and military operation against terrorists in various areas, foreign countries are showing interest in investment in Pakistan. China has already started projects worth $46 billion and Russia has also signed a $2billion agreement with the country. This situation is not acceptable to BJP-led rulers of India, who can go to any extent to create anarchy in Pakistan,” he held. Moreover, he said, at a time when all the security agencies are busy to ensure law and order during the month of Moharrum, it could be easy for the enemy agency to target the PM and the JuD chief.

The Foreign Office time and again has categorically reiterated its stance that Indian intelligence agency was behind the incidents of terrorism in Pakistan, the official said. The worst situation had prompted Prime Minister Sharif to direct the army to take a decisive action against terrorists in Karachi. Some of the terrorists arrested from Karachi are reported to be RAW agents, the officer told. Musaddiq Malik, a spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, said investigations have been initiated into the plot to kill PM Sharif. The elements behind the conspiracy would soon be arrested, he vowed. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and other dignitaries have condemned the Indian conspiracy, accusing New Delhi of fomenting terrorism in Pakistan.
